Crime and Prejudice is a play that is constructed so that we hear the thoughts independently of four people touched by a crime.
Jonathan, Barbara, Karen and Sam work at a local branch of an animal welfare charity. As news of the arrest of their colleague Tom filters through, they each make their own interpretation of why he may have committed the crime in question. Their deliberations reveal key elements of each of their prejudices.
As police investigations deepen, aspects of each of them, associated with their particular prejudice concerning gender, social class, ethnicity and disability, are exposed.
Eventually, as Tom’s role in the crime is revealed, they find that their own situations have significantly altered.
The narrative challenges us to consider, at what juncture our own prejudices have come into play.
